Who We Are
The Rev. Dr. Peter M. Wiley
Peter has been our pastor since the winter of 2005. Peter grew up north of Chicago, attended Denison University, received a master of divinity from Yale University and a doctorate from Hartford Seminary. Prior to his move to Hudson, he last served as the pastor of the Congregational Church of Brookfield in Connecticut. Peter and his wife Amiee are the parents of three children (all graduates from Hudson High School), a son who attends Webb Institute on Long Island, a daughter at the University of North Carolina, and a daughter in law school at the College of William and Mary. Peter and Amiee are often seen walking through the village with their golden retriever and their golden doodle.
The Rev. Jeanette Brodersen
Jeanette joined the staff as associate pastor in September 2011. With a Bachelor of Arts degree and teaching certificate earned from South Dakota State University, she taught high school English for three years in South Dakota. Jeanette received a Master of Divinity in May 2009 from Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, California. She then served as associate minister at Plymouth Congregation Church UCC in Des Moines, Iowa, through Plymouth’s Transition-into-Ministry program funded by the Lilly Endowment. Jeanette and her husband, Jon enjoy cooking, hiking, and putting together jigsaw puzzles. In her free time, Jeanette loves to curl up with a good novel and hot cup of tea.
The Rev. Dr. Richard Clewell
Associate Pastor - Part Time
Dick began his ministry here in March 2012. After graduation from Rutgers University and Dallas Seminary, he was ordained by the Presbyterian Church (USA) and has served many calls as a pastor, army chaplain, professional counselor, and Veterans Administration chaplain in Brecksville and Cleveland. Along the way he earned a Master of Sacred Theology degree from Dubuque Seminary and a doctorate from McCormick Theological Seminary. Dick most recently served as a parish associate at Fairmount Presbyterian Church in Cleveland Heights. He and his wife Eleanor are long-time residents of Hudson and love traveling the world.
The Rev. Steve Hockstra
Associate Pastor of Youth & Adult Ed
Steve began his ministry at FCCH in February 2009 and served as the Director of Youth Ministry for seven years. In April 2016, Steve was ordained in the United Church of Christ. Steve now serves as the Associate Minister of Youth and Adult Ed. Steve and his wife, Jennifer, live in Hudson with their two daughters, Lillian Grace, Clara Lynn and their lovable dog, Hunter. Steve enjoys almost anything sports related. Steve and Jennifer spend most of their free time trying to keep up with their two little girls.
The Rev. Jonathan Dodson
Adjunct Clergy: Chaplain, Laurel Lake Retirement Community
Jon is the Chaplain of Laurel Lake Retirement Community here in Hudson. He is a native of Colorado and moved to Hudson in September of 2011 when his wife, the Rev. Jeanette Brodersen, began serving as First Congregational Church’s associate pastor. After successfully completing a year-long chaplain residency at the Cleveland Clinic, his first call was to serve as the Chaplain of Alliance Community Hospital in Alliance, Ohio from 2013-2016. He has been with Laurel Lake since October of 2016. He has a passion for the transformative work of pastoral care and enjoys conversations about church history, spirituality, and global religion. Jon received his Bachelor of Science in Forestry Management at Colorado State University and a Master in Divinity at Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, California.
The Rev. Janet Ross
Adjunct Clergy: Mission for Haiti/Amistad Chapel
Janet is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, currently serving as minister of Amistad Chapel at the UCC National Office in Cleveland, Ohio. She served churches in New York and Ohio for 25 years. In 2009, she felt called to expand her ministry into economic justice through fair trade, creating The Market Path with First Grace United Church of Christ in Akron.
Her ministry is now focused on fair trade as she and her husband, Joel, seek to connect with and support people around the world through their fair trade company Beyond Borders. They currently work with 100 artists in Haiti who create sculptures made from recycled 55 gallon oil barrels to distribute to stores throughout the United States and Canada. She and Joel live in Stow and have six adult children.
Director of Children's Ministries (Children’s Center and Education)
Dee has been Director of Children's Ministries since November of 2002, overseeing Christian Education for the children of our church. As of Fall 2016, with a restructuring of Children's Ministries, Dee oversees both the Children's Center (our weekday childcare and preschool program) and children's Christian Education. Dee has a Bachelor's Degree from St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY. She taught middle school and high school social sciences in a small town in the Adirondacks of New York State. Dee and her husband Brad live in Novelty, Ohio, and have two children, Brad and Mary Kate, who both graduated from Hudson High School. Brad Jr. is a graduate of College of Charleston and works in a hotel in Charleston, South Carolina. Mary Kate is in graduate school at Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, New Jersey. All of Dee's extra time is filled with gardening, her favorite pastime, playing with her two Potcakes (rescue dogs from Turks & Caicos) and traveling to South Carolina, New Jersey and Canandaigua Lake in New York to visit her mom and dad.
Associate Director of Children's Ministries (Children’s Center and Education)
Katie has been a member of First Congregational Church since 2008 when she moved to Hudson from Texas. Katie grew up in Canton and got her degree from Ohio University in Interpersonal Communication/Pre-Law and a minor in Psychology. She began working at the church in 2015 as Assistant Director of Children’s Ministries. Katie and her husband, Ryan, have one son named Jack who is a Sophomore at Hudson High School. In her free time, when she is not watching a swim meet, Katie enjoys spending time with her dogs, Punch Zenith and Joey Vader, and her cat Chancelor.
Middle School Coordinator
Callie has a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the College of Wooster and a Masters of Education in Secondary Science from The Ohio State University. Callie taught high school physics and chemistry for eight years in Michigan and Ohio before deciding to stay home with her two young daughters. She and her husband Jason have been members of First Congregational Church since 2010 and are both involved with the youth programs. They have lived in Hudson for three years with their daughters Genevieve, Vivienne and their new little sister, Penelope.
Youth MInistry Assistant
Amy graduated from Furman University in Greenville, SC with a Bachelor of Science in Geology and went on to teach middle school science and engineering for four years in Charlotte, NC. While there, Amy met and married her husband Brad and began to raise their family. After three relocation moves and three children (Anna, Grace, and Benjamin) Amy and Brad settled in Hudson in 2009 and Amy began to volunteer with the high school ministry, Impact. She has worked part-time as the Youth Ministry Assistant since 2011. Amy loves to be outdoors running and spending time with her family.
Thomas More Scott, Ph.D.
Director of Music Ministries
Dr. Scott has an undergraduate degree in piano performance and a Master’s Degree in choral conducting from BGSU, a Master’s Degree in Liturgical Theology from the University of Notre Dame, and a Ph.D. in music theory and music composition from Kent State. He is a life member of the American Choral Director’s Association (ACDA) and holds the Choirmaster certification from the American Guild of Organists (AGO). A published composer, Tom was the former director of the internationally-ranked Men of Independence, a group he still sings with. He has conducted at the Vatican, the Duomo in Florence, St. Mark’s in Venice and other international venues. Dr. Scott is also the Music Director of the General Synod of the UCC, and in the last year conducted the Fauré Requiem at Carnegie Hall, ran the Yellowstone Half Marathon and sang with Chanticleer. He and Ann have been married 38 years, with four adult children and one granddaughter. In his free time, he ... wait, what’s free time?!
Charlotte Beers Plank
Charlotte Beers Plank joined the staff in October 2015. She is active as a recitalist and freelance musician in Northeast Ohio, and accompanies a variety of choral groups throughout the area. Charlotte earned her Bachelor of Music in organ performance and Bachelor of Arts in German studies from Oberlin College & Conservatory of Music. Before joining the staff at FCC, Charlotte served as the organist and choral accompanist for Christ Episcopal Church in Oberlin. In December 2015, Charlotte received her Master of Library and Information Science at Kent State University. She works as an Emerging Technologies Librarian at the Hudson Library & Historical Society. She and her husband Aidan, an accomplished double-bassist, live in Hudson with their cat, Lily.
Director of Health Ministries
Kathy graduated from Kent State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and started her nursing career at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital in Cleveland and the University Hospitals surgical center. She worked at Laurel Lake Retirement Community in Crown Center for seven years and most recently retired from Merck, Sharp & Dohme after 13 years. Kathy and her husband have three children. Brian and his wife, Marissa, and daughter, Alexandria, live in Miamisburg, Ohio. Justin and his wife, Elizabeth, and daughter, Lucy, live in Hudson. Julia is finishing her Master's degree in Engineering Geology at Kent State University. Kathy and her husband, Bill, have lived in Hudson for 31 years. They enjoy biking, hiking and walking with their dog, Sophie.
Director of Stewardship and Outreach
Sue became the Director of Stewardship and Development in August 2005. She has a BA in History and a M of Ed from Allegheny College in Meadville, PA. Sue has been an elementary school teacher in the East Cleveland City Schools and the Hudson City Schools for 16 years. She and her husband, Derran have been members of First Congregational Church of Hudson since 1993. They have two grown sons. Andrew who lives and works in the Cleveland area and Brad who is a senior at the University of Mt. Union majoring in Business-Marketing.
